Dr. Yongwei Guo wins DOG Doctoral Award for outstanding dissertation
Dr. Yongwei Guo, clinical scientist at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Cologne, won the DOG Doctoral Award sponsored by the Hermann Wacker Fund, at the annual meeting of the German Ophthalmological Society.
The €1,000 prize honors him for his outstanding cumulative dissertation work on “Standardized Three-dimensional Anthropometry of Periocular Region.” The periocular region and the visualization of eyelid tumors as well as their surgical treatment is not only a clinical-curative important topic, but also a plastic-surgical and aesthetic one. In the past, three-dimensional capabilities were not available for imaging these regions. Dr. Guo was able to close this diagnostic gap with the help of his scientific publications.
The Hermann Wacker Doctoral Prize, which is awarded annually, is aimed at those students or doctoral candidates whose work focuses on ophthalmology and, in particular, on the retina.
