Green light for sight

The 3rd Annual Scientific Retreat of the Department of Ophthalmology becomes the inaugural meeting of the new Research Unit FOR 2240 “(Lymph)angiogenesis and Cellular Immunity In Inflammatory Diseases of the Eye”

The go-ahead to officially begin the work of Research Unit 2240, funded by the German Research Foundation, came on 1 April 2015. The main focus is on ”Inflammatory Processes of the Eye”. On the 29th and 30th of June, the two speakers of the group, Prof. Claus Cursiefen and Prof. Thomas Langmann, once again brought together a group of over 30 participants from the 3 different locations of this research unit, namely Cologne, Muenster, and Erlangen, at the conference center Naafs Haeuschen (‘Naaf’s Little House’) in Lohmar. On both days, 21 specialist lectures were held on topics of common research interest and various concepts were presented on how to treat ageing-related and inflammatory diseases of the eye with therapeutic regulation of the immune system.
