Alexander von Humboldt Fellow – Professor Dr. Takahiko Hayashi

Professor Dr. Takahiko Hayashi from the department of ophthalmology at Yokohama Minami Kyosai Hospital in Yokohama, Japan, is currently a guest and Alexander von Humboldt Fellow of experienced scientists at the Department of ophthalmology, University Hospital of Cologne, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Claus Cursiefen.
Professor Hayashi is an internationally established cornea specialist and ophthalmologist. He is currently working within the DFG Research Group – on optimizing the treatment of the inflammatory reactions after lamellar corneal transplantation.
After his medical studies Prof. Hayashi made his PhD on the Immunological mechanisms underlying corneal endothalial cell transplantation and specialized in complex corneal- and cataract as well as retinal surgeries. The University Hospital of Cologne is an European reference center and does more than 10% of all cornea transplantations in Germany.
