RETINA Swiss AWARD for Dr. Anne Wolf
Recently Anne Wolf has been awarded with the Retina Suisse Award 2019 at the Swiss Eye Research Meeting in Lausanne (February 2019).
Age –related macular degeneration (AMD) leads to hyperactivation of the immune system thus contributing to disease progression and ultimately blindness.
The biologist Anne Wolf from Experimental Immunology of the Eye (Chair: Prof. Dr. Thomas Langmann) discovered a protein which can activate a defense mechanisms against AMD-induced inflammation. Specifically, she demonstrated by using an AMD model that triggering of TSPO protein may improve disease outcome opening potential therapeutic avenues for the management of AMD. Reina Suisse is a Suisse association of patients with severe conditions of the ocular fundus.
