Prof. De Paiva in Cologne

We were honored to welcome Prof. De Paiva last Tuesday (12th of November 2019) at the Hospital University of Cologne.

The Ocular Surface Group, led by Prof. Philipp Steven and Dr. Uta Gehlsen invited Prof. De Paiva to collaborate on aging aspects in dry-eye disease and ocular Graft-versus-Host Disease. The latter is main focus of the FOR2240 Research Unit’s N1-project.
Prof. De Paiva was trained in Brazil and the United States. She is a leading expert in the field of ocular immunology and ocular surface disease. Her past research contributed significantly to the understanding of auto-immune processes in dry-eye disease, the most common chronic eye disease in humans. Most recently she demonstrated the role of aging in models of dry-eye disease, which is going to be the main topic of her seminar. Prof. De Paiva has authored or co-authored 112 peer-review publications (h-index: 46) and is president of the International Ocular Surface Society.
