Award for a young ophthalmologist – Wanlin Fan wins the Richard Collin Award

Wanlin Fan

Wanlin Fan

Wanlin Fan, guest ophthalmologist and doctoral student at the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital Cologne under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. Ludwig M. Heindl and Dr. Alexander C. Rokohl, was awarded the Richard Collin Award – the junior award of ESOPRS. At the annual Meeting of the European Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ESOPRS) 2022 in Nice, France, he received the €3,000 award for his paper research about Three-Dimensional Volumetric Measurements for Periocular Tumor Models. In his research, Wanlin Fan showed the high and good reliability of the three-dimensional volumetric measurements for periocular tumor models. These important findings now pave the way for a broad clinical application in patients with periocular tumors.

The Richard Collin Award – the junior award of ESOPRS – is a prize for the best research by a young scientist in the field of ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery in Europe. 2 of the last 3 ESOPRS awards were won by young researchers from the research group which is led
by Prof. Dr. Dr. Ludwig M. Heindl. This underpins the working group’s leading position in the field of plastic and reconstructive ophthalmology in international comparison.

Wanlin Fan is also affiliated with the FOR2240 Project P4 which is also supervised and led by Prof. Dr. Dr. Ludwig M. Heindl.
